New Rain Garden in Marrickville Golf Course

Last Sunday the latest installation of a rain garden was opened on Marrickville Golf Course. This raingarden catches the stormwater from 3.2 hectres of surrounding streets (Bruce St, Beauchamp St, Princes St) and cleans the water before it enters the Cooks River. The project was funded jointly by Marrickville Council & NSW Govt (Estuary Management Program). This device is a glimpse into the future of what will give us a clean River.

Short Film – Water is Life

This great short film was produced by Marrickville Council and follows up the work of local residents in the Riverside Crescent sub-catchment of the Cooks River, many of whom are members of the Cooks River Valley Association and the Mudcrabs.

Pending Changes in Ewen Park

COMMUNITY BUILDING in EWEN PARK

The Cooks River Valley Association has asked Canterbury Council to commit to the current Plan of Management for Ewen Park, by building a ‘community hub’ beside the river at Ewen Park.

This hub should include a clubhouse for the Hurlstone Park Wanderers Soccer Club as well as a multi-purpose building for the broader community, as specified in the Ewen Park Plan of Management (adopted by Canterbury Council in November 2008).

Council’s own Design Development Plan 2010 (as shown in the attached map) placed a “Multi-Purpose Building” (including a café) in this riverside location, and behind it a “Soccer Clubhouse”.

Canterbury Council is considering changing its agreed plan for Ewen Park.

We urge you to support the approved plan for a multi-purpose community space and a soccer clubhouse in the location of the former SOSC building, as already approved in the Ewen Park Plan of Management.

Please send us your comments (info@crva.org.au).

Below is a section of Canterbury Council’s Plan for Ewen Park, developed in 2010. We want to see this plan implemented.

CRVA/Mudcrabs Christmas Gathering

What a beautiful day for a Christmas Gathering by the River. About 50 Mudcrabs joined together to celebrate the end of a very productive and successful year of work on the River.

A big thank you to all of the Mudcrabs who have helped in so many ways over the year. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to you all.
